In November we posted information about an amazing breakthrough in creating vocal cords in a lab.  We recently came across a video that demonstrates the sound that can be produced – it may not be perfect voice, but it’s pretty darned good!  The video also shows the mucosal wave in the engineered material and it is shockingly similar to what we see in normal healthy vocal cords.  That wave motion is critical to producing the tone in our voice.  We can’t see the wave movement with the naked eye because the vocal cords vibrate at 125-250 Hz, so a strobe light is used to slow the image down so we can appreciate the complex movement.  Just amazing what science is doing!  Check this video out when you have a moment:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S20XBwGO0AY
