Itβs time for some Toddler Talk Tips! Today we are talking about expansion! πΆπ½ π§πΌ π§π» π¦πΏ
Expansion is when a child uses a gesture, points, makes a sound or using a real word to communicate. Once the child has done so, the parent is going to expand on that by adding to it.
For example, if a child points to a cookie, the parent is going to also point to the cookie and label it βcookie.β This is therefore, expanding on the childβs current communication. Furthermore, if the child pointed the said βcookieβ or a close word approximate of cookie, the parent could expand and say, βyummy cookieβ to provide a two word utterance!πͺ
